Do you ever wonder why you set a goal and have trouble reaching it?
I’ve wondered that for years!
I get so excited about tackling a new project, learning a new skill or subject, and then that thing happens.
Actual life slowly seeps into our exuberant excitement and pulls us away from the new thing we were so determined to learn and do.
Please tell me that I’m not alone in this crazy cycle!
Have you ever wondered why that cycle continues? I’m so happy you are curious (because I have those super powers where I can see you shaking your head yes while you read this…JK!)
Here’s why – because you must have a good life system in place for your goals to thrive.
Life will continue to happen.
Sometimes it lifts you up and other times it knocks you down. If you don’t have a good system in place to help you achieve your goals then the likelihood of you actually achieving them goes way, way, way down.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, has spent a great deal of time researching this issue. I invite you to read his book to learn more about the science behind good systems and healthy habits if you are a book nerd like me.
You may be thinking by now that sounds like a great idea, but what system do I choose?
I get it, there’s a lot of information out there. It can be overwhelming choosing the “right” one that works for you.
I spent most of my life looking for a system that could work for me and not against me, and something that I could truly make my own.
I never understood how successful people did so much each day until I learned that they all had life systems in place.
But, “What kind?” I wondered.
I also love to connect dots in cross-cultural and cross-curricular studies. So, I got really curious about life systems that connected our mind-body development.
When I started my yoga and meditation practice I learned about an energy system called the chakras. Deepak Chopra defines chakras as “wheels of energy throughout the mind-body system”.
We have energy that’s either constantly flowing or blocked within our mind-body system. There are also characteristics and attributes that define each of the energy systems within the body.
As much as I resonated with the chakra system, I didn’t want those I was teaching to get lost and feel that it was too esoteric or didn’t apply to their life.
Like any creative educator out there, I took some tough, abstract concepts and created a new and improved modern system.
I adapted the ancient chakra system into a modern life personal growth system that is relatable, tactical, and practical.
It’s a system that makes sense for your life – whether you are an educator, leader, parent, or someone that’s ready to take control of your life in a way that actually gets you results and gets you the joy you deserve.
It’s my free mindful living masterclass, Nine To Shine. I give you my 9-step personal roadmap to help you de-stress for success so you can become the person everyone loves, including yourself!
I’ll take a triple of that! How about you?!
It’s a proven system that helps you build the healthy habits you need in your life to be successful. Goals are great and we need them, but without a system, our goals face the dreaded RIP sign.
Do you remember my last blog post on Identity Shift? Recall I talked about how important personal growth is and why focusing on who you want to become is more relevant today than ever.
So, I wanted to give you two great tips I learned from James Clear (remember, I mentioned him earlier as the author of Atomic Habits) and it happens to be 2 similar things we do in Nine To Shine!
As James Clear said, “True behavior change is identity change.”
When we work towards any goal we create for ourselves we are working on changing our identity.
Here’s the process:
- Decide the type of person you want to be.
- Prove it to yourself with small wins.
Simple enough, right? That’s where a good system will help you along the way.
In Nine To Shine we do it this way:
- Focus on your most important goal (i.e., Decide the type of person you want to be. See No. 1 above.)
- Begin 9 simple and actionable steps to make No. 1 come to life (i.e., prove it to yourself with small wins. See No. 2 above.)
So, get your journals handy and start thinking about the type of person you want to be right now.
Who do you want to be as a parent? As an educator? Leader? Human being? What footprint do you want to leave? What areas of your life can you continue to improve and grow?
